Me and the RaspberryPi /9
In the last few weeks I received lots of requests about a solution that permits the Raspberry Pi computers to be stacked.
At the current development stage of my case I could simply add some bosses in the cover, so that the bottom part of a second case can be screwed using the bottom fixing holes.
The fixing holes can be used to slide the case back and forth without unscrewing. I dared to add four bosses each part, so that one can choose the sliding direction and the orientation of the computer.
This way the design of the bosses won’t win the “best design” award, but I imagine that the chance to choose how to fix the units is too tempting to be overlooked. Moreover, if you use two opposite holes in the long axis, you can get a not-sliding coupling. Cool, isn’t it? 🙂
The stackable case feature is not compatible with the GPIO aperture designed here: the ribbon cable would come into contact with the bottom part of the upper unity. So I opted for a bigger hole where a connector can be inserted, as showed in the the images.
I can’t say which is the best version of the case: well, probably I won’t never use the GPIO ports, so my “standard” version is this one. But I’m pretty sure that I will make all of them available for printing on Shapeways, so that everyone will be able to choose .
Note: the images in this article are rendering made using Blender and Yafaray. I’m still waiting for my Raspberry Pi computer: I’m confident that I will receive it within the next week, so I will be able to test my early prototype, adjust everything, make a (definitive) prototype and finally release the enclosure for all of you hungry devourer of… Raspberry Pies! 😉
.
I love looking through a post that will make men and women think.
Also, thank you for allowing me to comment!

One thing I would like to discuss is that fat burning plan fast can be
achieved by the correct diet and exercise. A person’s size not just affects the look, but also the complete quality of life. Self-esteem, despression symptoms, health risks, along with physical capabilities are influenced in excess weight. It is possible to do everything right and at the same time having a gain. Should this happen, a medical problem may be the perpetrator. While a lot of food and not enough work out are usually accountable, common medical ailments and popular prescriptions can certainly greatly amplify size. Thx for your post here.

Hurrah! At last I got a blog from where I be capable of actually
get useful information regarding my study and knowledge.

Hey there, You’ve done an excellent job. I will certainly digg it and personally suggest to my friends. I’m sure they will be benefited from this
web site.

Good way of explaining, and good paragraph to take facts about my presentation
subject matter, which i am going to convey in institution of
higher education.

excellent submit, very informative. I ponder why the other experts of this
sector don’t realize this. You must continue your writing. I am sure, you’ve a huge readers’ base already!

Hi there, I enjoy reading through your post.
I wanted to write a little comment to support you.

Hello everyone, it’s my first pay a quick visit at this web site, and post is actually fruitful for me, keep up posting such content.

Do you have a 3d printer compadable cad file

When someone writes an article he/she maintains the
plan of a user in his/her brain that how a user
can be aware of it. So that’s why this piece of writing is amazing. Thanks!

Hi! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any trouble with
hackers? My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up
losing a few months of hard work due to no back up. Do you have any solutions to stop hackers?

Are you sharing the CAD files or the .stl (3D build file)? I have access to 3D printing machines that I would prefer to use instead of Shapeways.

in this photo, are you suggesting that the power of all the individual rasberry pis can be “daisy chained” and harnessed to make one powerful computer?
"Mi piace""Mi piace"
Nope, the ribbon cables showed in these renderings (not photos) are used to connect hardware to the GPIO pins (see http://elinux.org/RPi_Low-level_peripherals).

What about this old trick from 3COM:
There was even a previous variant which had only the lateral clips to keep them toghether, there was no supporting plane. The units were seated one on top of the other, just like your rendering here.

This is an option. I thought about it. The difference is that it requires at least one more part to be purchased.
"Mi piace""Mi piace"
That part could be selled as an option, to be buyed only when needed.
Or you could think of some little holes to be used with plastic ties (fascette stringicavi, come si dice in inglese? 🙂 ). Very rough, but good for a mad scientist lab…

in inglese si direbbe “cable ties” 🙂
I think the port solution is quite elegant Marco; since the RasPi creates little heat it has no need for fans, so there are no ports which could be blocked by stacking like this.
"Mi piace""Mi piace"
No, no. That’s the first design choice I really disliked. You should have only two fixing holes, exactly those two farthest on the long axis. Why? Because this way you can arrange the raspys in any way other than sideways over another raspy. Which I’m actually challenged about why one would want that…
"Mi piace""Mi piace"
This (more general) solution allows you to do that, and others to do otherwise. As an example, you would need to remove just one unit of the stack: this solution allows you to slide it away without opening it (or any other).

I think it looks really awesome…thank you for keeping in mind the GPIO port. Now just have to wait for my raspi and then wait to order this…so much waiting to do!!

Actually, one thing that just came to mind, is it possible to have the lightguides at the corner or split to be shown on top and side; so it can be seen in either configuration?
