I thought about it and I decided that the case for the Raspberry Pi computer is ready to be released at least as a Release Candidate.

I’ve just ordered mine. I will test it again on my board: as I said, the alpha model was not perfect but perfectly usable; now it should be really ok. In the meanwhile you impatient and brave hacked can decide whether to wait or get one!

I think you have done an excellent job with this case!
However, the price stopped me in my tracks from purchasing it right away…I think I will first wait for your review on it and then maybe wait to see if the prices and shipping to Canada come down possibly.

Although I am impatient, I am not very brave, so I have decided to wait for the final ‘release’ version.
It certainly is a lovely and beautifully designed case though, but it is a shame that it is quite so expensive to buy from Shapeways.
I am sure that in the end it will be worth the wait though!

Have you planned to make the case also in ABS plastic (more resistant)? I think it will be the best solution!
I think the price will turn many potential customers away (its more expensive than the Pi itself, not including shipping). But it is one of the best Pi case designs I have seen so far if it were in the 10 euro range I wouldn’t hesitate ordering one.

However. Shapeways is one option to get it printed. I have access to 8 3D printers myself. Is it possible for me to print the model myself? could I get it as a STL file?

Ti faccio i complimenti per questo case. Ne ho appena ordinato uno su Shapeways. Mi chiedevo, posizionare uno strato di materiale parzialmente trasparente direttamente tra i led sulla scheda e le lightguides potrebbe diminuire la luminosità e eliminare il fastidioso effetto trasparenza nel case… Proverò… Nel frattempo in attesa del case ho appena installato raspbmc e va una meraviglia…

La versione RC1 corregge il posizionamento delle guide luce, e i primi test sul modello che ho appena ricevuto stamattina (che però è rosso, non bianco) mostrano un netto miglioramento del sistema. Adesso l’attività dei led è ben visibile sui cinque punti luce. Il più fastidioso è il led dell’alimentazione (PWR), perché è molto più luminoso degli altri e tendere a diffondere.
Bellissimo! Solamente costa più del Raspberry Pi… Mi accontenterò della tavoletta nuda e cruda!

Looks really great, but the prices are just insane. Why should the case cost twice the main board ?
IMO no RPI cases should ever cost more than 15 squids, and under no circustance more than the RPI itself. It feels like an iPhone cover that cost 900$
The case costs about 50$, RPi 35$, so it’s not twice. The cost is due to the production process (SLS), unfortunately it’s expensive.
Moreover, it is not a “cover” to be applied over a case, but it is a case. You don’t know how much the case for the iPhone is…
Asking questions are really fastidious thing if you are not understanding something entirely, but this post gives pleasant understanding yet.
